The Hammer Vault – Book Review & Giveaway – ENDED

Written on January 8, 2012 by Sarah

Thanks to our friends over at Titan publishing we have a great giveaway for fans of British production studio Hammer. The legendary film making company who are best known for their classic Horror movies from the 1950′s. The book we have to giveaway is The Hammer Vault written and compiled by official Hammer films historian Marcus Hearn.

It is a stunningly visual book that takes you on a journey through the Hammer Quartermass experience, that originally aired on BBC television in 1953, right through to present day and Hammer films resurgence over the last few years with films such as Let Me In, The Resident, Wake Wood and next years highly anticipated, The Woman In Black starring Daniel Radcliffe. film library from The

With the use of spectacular imagery, featuring props, annotated script pages, unused poster artwork, production designs, rare promotional material, private correspondence and never before seen screen shots it takes you through the studios rise to prominence in the 1950′s, its decline in the 1980′s and all the way through to its cult status and reemergence as a major player in the horror market today.

Writer Marcus Hearn’s knowledge of the subject matter and commentary makes this a real page turner. He takes you on a journey through the most obscure of Hammer’s productions, gives details of each image, while taking you behind the scenes of not just each movie but the studio itself. Amongst other things you will learn about the drama between the father and son team James and Michael Carreras and Hammers battle with the censors over their films most horrific scenes.

As with previous Hammer books though it is the classic artwork (which I have intermingled with this article) that is the standout feature, and with this book you have the added bonus of unique never before seen pictures, such as watercolors of characters from The Savage Jackboot, by Hammer star Peter Cushing himself.

Perfect for your coffee table, for Horror buffs or even for just a fans of great artwork, The Hammer Vault is available now from Titan books and you can win a copy below.
