Only one British movie released on DVD / Blu-ray this week but it is an absolute classic of 90′s cinema. Trainspotting, based on the novel by Irvine Welsh, is generally considered to be British director Danny Boyle’s best work (and he has made some great movies, 127 hours, Slumdog Millionaire!) and includes amazing performances from its four main stars Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle.

The film focuses on Mcgregor’s character Renton who is deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene. It follows him as he tries to clean up and get out, despite the allure of the drugs and influence of friends.

The Blu-ray extras include Audio commentary with director Danny Boyle, actor Ewan McGregor, producer Andrew MacDonald and screenwriter John Hodge, “The Making of Trainspotting” featurette, A Trainspotting Retrospective, Interviews with director Danny Boyle, author Irvine Welsh, producer Andrew MacDonald and screenwriter John Hodge, Cannes Film Festival Interviews, Deleted scenes with optional audio commentary and more.

Take a look at the full synopsis and trailer from the movie below.

Trainspotting – Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor), a young man with few prospects and fewer ambitions, lives in economically depressed Edinburgh. Like most of his friends, Renton is a heroin addict who loves the drug’s blissful nothingness; financing his habit also provides excitement and challenges that his life otherwise lacks. Renton’s two best friends are also junkies: Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), a snappy dresser obsessed with James Bond, and Spud (Ewan Bremner), a guileless nerd who suggests Pee Wee Herman’s debauched cousin.
