Hosting the Summer Olympics is no doubt a big deal for any nation and next year the UK and the capital city will be the honored hosts of the London 2012 Olympics. With that in mind the Olympic organizers are pulling out all the stops to produce the best Olympics to date with the best British talent available.
Already at work is Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours director Danny Boyle who is orchestrating the Olympic opening ceremony. But what’s an opening ceremony without a song! Well, according to news reports, Coldplay’s Chris Martin is at the top of the list to write and perform the official Olympic song. To be titled Welcome Song, the arts charity Dartington Hall Trust has been charged with the responsibility to find someone to write the song that will be broadcast to a live TV audience in excess of 2 billion viewers!
“Chris is at the top of the list to front the official record. He’s a huge star and a British musical icon, with an international profile. We’re pulling out all the stops to get hold of him, ideally with the rest of Coldplay involved, too.” a source told the Daily Mirror.
If Chris isn’t up to the challenge then it might come down to someone else on the list which is rumored to include Muse, Damon Albarn and Joss Stone (the last one seems a slightly random choice!).
We try not to play into rumors here at Britscene but someone has to write theme tune and sing the theme tune and Coldplay are a pretty fitting band for the task. Although, they have to finish up that new album they have been talking about for a while now! As usual though, only time will tell.
