Warner Bros. have announced that the final Harry Potter is to receive a send off fit for a hero with the premiere being held in London’s Trafalgar Square, home of Nelson’s Column. The premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 will take place on 7th July 2011 with an opening ceremony/spectacular in Trafalgar Square followed by the screening of the movie itself in Leicester Square.
Special areas within the square will be cordoned off for fans and some lucky competition winners will be able to get up close and personal to the cast of the biggest British movie franchise of all time. The Mayor of London Boris Johnson, who is a big Potter fan, sounded very excited when asked to comment about the event: “For the last decade we’ve been gripped by the on-screen battle between Harry Potter and his arch enemy Lord Voldemort and this is one of the most eagerly awaited films in history. As befits a great British triumph, I can think of no better venue than the iconic surroundings of Trafalgar Square in which to stage the most spectacular of send offs for this dramatic finale”. Warner Bros are also sounding rather excited with Josh Berger, President and Managing Director Of Warner Bros Pictures UK, adding: “We are delighted that our plans for the finale of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will take place in such a spectacular venue. We pride ourselves on the creativity of our premieres and the space within Trafalgar Square will lend itself to being a magical experience for both guests and fans.”
Trafalgar Square, in the heart of London. was built to commemorate the 1805 Battle Of Trafalgar and was completed in 1845. At the heart of the square is the 169 ft 3in Nelson’s Coloumn, built to honour the death of Britain’s greatest seafaring hero, Admiral Nelson.
I’ve been to a concert in Trafalgar Square (It was the Scissor Sisters, deal with it!) and it is an awe inspiring venue for a major event so i can only imagine what it will be like for the last ever Harry Potter premiere. This will be one event that everyone will be battling to get an invite to.
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 goes on general release on July 15th 2011.
