Three British movies out this week, although one has a nearly all American cast. Lets start with Made In Dagenham as it was one of the best British movies of last year. It only received a limited release in the US, so you may have missed it. If you want to try before you buy, take a look at our review or head over to our British movie library entry here as we have pulled together loads of clips.
The next release is famous British studio, Hammer’s latest return to the horror world. The Resident stars Hilary Swank and Geoffrey Dean Morgan with hammer horror legend Christopher Lee also making an appearance.
Finally we have Topsy-Turvey by one of Britain’s most famous directors Mike Leigh. That is all I really know about this movie but it’s by Mike Leigh and stars Jim Broadbent so it must be worth checking out, right?
To find out more about each release just take a look at the synopsis and trailer from each movie below.
Made In Dagenham – Rita O’Grady (Sally Hawkins) reflects that upbeat era, along with her friends and co-workers at the city’s Ford Motor Factory who laugh in the face of their poor conditions. Lisa (Rosamund Pike) is a fiercely intelligent Cambridge-educated woman , tending to the home with a husband that suggests she keep her opinions to herself. Rita is coerced into attending a meeting with shop steward Connie, sympathetic union representative Albert (Bob Hoskins) and Peter Hopkins (Rupert Graves), Ford’s Head of Industrial Relations. What she expects to be simply a day out of work, complete with a free lunch, turns into much more when she and her colleagues become outraged by the lack of respect shown in the meeting to the women employees.
The Resident – Juliet (Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank, Million Dollar Baby), a beautiful doctor, has found the perfect New York apartment to start a new life after separating from her husband. It’s got spacious rooms, a spectacular view, and a handy, handsome landlord. But there are secrets behind every wall and terror in every room as Juliet gets the unnerving feeling that she is not alone. She is being watched. She is being stalked. And no one is safe when she discovers the relentless horror on her doorstep. But how do you stop an evil that you can’t see…until it’s too late? Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Grey’s Anatomy) and screen legend Christopher Lee (The Lord of the Rings) costar in this pulse-pounding shocker from famed horror studio Hammer Films (Let Me In).
Topsy-Turvey – After Gilbert and Sullivan’s latest play is critically panned, the frustrated team threatens to disband until it is inspired to write the masterpiece “The Mikado.”
