The British Movie based on drug smuggler Howard Mark’s, Mr Nice is released on the big screen in the UK this weekend.
Today the director, Bernard Rose told BBC.co.uk about troubles filming the smoking scenes in the movie due to strict UK laws. Rose is quoted as saying “In Wales, where we shot half the film, it is illegal to smoke a cigarette on a movie set, so in Wales we had very elaborate special effects devices to simulate smoking, I kid you not! All the smoking close-ups we shot in Spain, where it’s perfectly legal.”
Based in the 1970′s and 80′s (when everyone smoked!), Mr Nice tells the story of the rise to power and eventual imprisonment of one of Britain’s biggest ever drug smugglers Howard Mark’s played by British actor Rhys Ifan’s (The Boat that Rocked).
We have just added Mr Nice to our British Movie Trailer Database here, so you can get a detailed synopsis and preview of this Brit flick. Mr Nice is released in the UK on October 8. No US release dates have been announced, but we will keep our ears to the ground for more information.
